The showcase of films featured in GOLD Crop including:
Griffith Regional Art Gallery, NSW
13 - 30 November, 2008
1200 photographs, 1 tonne of red dirt and 50 metres of fencing wire - GOLD Crop is the latest showcase of the GOLD project appearing as an installation at the Griffith Regional Art Gallery.
Postcard prints are mounted on lengths of wire and stand in furrows of dirt spread out across the gallery floor, creating a lush field of images. At a time when crops are failing and harvest yields are low, the GOLD team has experienced growth in the relationships and generosity of farming families and rural communities.
The exhibition also incorporates twenty-nine large prints selected from the GOLD photographic archives that celebrate people and place, and a series of short films created from material gathered on road trips to farming communities.
Water is the New Gold, Boree Creek Eye and Gold Rush have been created as part of the weekly GOLD workshop process.
Key Artists: Sarah (Davo) Davies, Christopher Saunders
Resident Artists: Claire Atkins, Bronwyn Purvis and James Edwards
Big hART has produced a number of exhibitions of GOLD creative works in which photography has featured significantly. The images have been exhibited in a variety of ways, including on newsprint, as inkjet prints both large and small and as time-lapse films.
Over the next month we will be adding and archiving our past collections of GOLD photos as they have been exhibited in the GOLD Exhibition + Lab, as well as in travelling exhibitions taken on the road to the farming communities involved in the project and conferences such as the recent Art at the Heart in Alice Springs.
For now, you can visit the evergrowing collection of phtography documented on GOLD's Flickr page specific exhibitions can be visited by clicking on an album below.
VISIT GOLD ON FLICKR >GOLD has produced produced a range of films using interviews, portraits, archival images and footage shot during the many road trips and excursions to farming communities. In most instances a film crew is made up of young people participating in GOLD alongside a filmmaker. These young people have developed filmmaking skills through regular workshops with the Big hART team in Griffith.
Big hART has had a number of exhibitions and screenings of GOLD films. The films are currently indexed on GOLD's Vimeo page according to where they have been shown. Some of these films are finished works some are still being developed.

Big hART is inviting songwriters to contribute music to the project as part of the creative development of GOLD. Discussions are taking place with well-known songwriters who have expressed an interest in being involved.
There are number of ways in which songwriters can engage with the project: by writing a song in response to viewing material on this site; by spending some time with one of the families on the farm or having a dialogue with them that may inspire the writing of a song; or by contributing a relevant finished piece.
These songs may be included in the film material, or used in the Gold theatre performance and exhibitions.
